  5.   This is one of a series of archives of Falcon Image Utilities from
  6.   SKWare One. If you have not downloaded those others listed here, you
  7.   may find all (or most) of them useful and/or entertaining.

  10.   These utility programs will display only on Falcon030. They will
  11.   function on ST/STe/MegaSTe/TT030, but without any display:
  12.  
  13.   XGA__TGA.LZH      Programs to convert XGA to TGA format and TGA to XGA,
  14.                     XGA and TGA viewer programs. ST/TT converters included.
  15.   IFF2XIMG.LZH      Converts Amiga 32-color (5-plane) IFF to 256-color
  16.                     XIMG. ST/TT version is included; display only on Falcon.
  17.   SPEC2XGA.LZH      Converts Spectrum (.SPU and .SPC) files to XGA TrueColor.
  18.                     An ST/TT version is included; display only on Falcon.

  21.   These utility programs will run and/or display ONLY on Falcon030.
  22.   They WILL NOT function on ST/STe/MegaSTe/TT030:

  24.   XGA2XIMG.LZH      6 sizes of TrueColor XGA's converted to 256-color XIMG.
  25.   RWL2XIMG.LZH      Converts Seymor-Radix IMG_Scan raw data files to 256-color
  26.                     XIMG. Sample file included. Excellent image quality.
  27.   CS__DEMO.LZH      Falcon030 TrueColor demo of COLORSCAN II. Converts scanned
  28.                     IMG files to colors and greys.
  29.   CSCANIMG.LZH      Mono IMG file for conversion by CS__DEMO.
  30.   SURATXGA.LZH      Seurat TrueColor image in XGA format.

  32.   RUNS ON ALL ATARI 680x0 PLATFORMS:

  34.   BITCAMRA.LZH      Enlarges, reduces and reproportions monochrome, 4-color,
  35.                     16-color, 256-color, and TrueColor images with remarkable
  36.                     speed and accuracy. Loads GEM IMG, STTT IMG, XIMG, and
  37.                     XGA images. (This a demo version; save is disabled.) May
  38.                     be used as viewer for conversions from programs above;
  39.                     runs on everything Atari except 8-bits...

  49.   This utility program does not display. It seems to run on Falcon030,
  50.   but it has not been tested extensively in all resolutions. It has been
  51.   tested thoroughly on ST/STe/MegaSTe/TT030 in the three ST(e) resolutions.
  52.   It qualifies as a Falcon utility only in the sense that its conversions
  53.   include many file types that may prove useful in Falcon operations.

  55.   XPORTIMG.LZH      Converts 4-plane (16-color) STTT GEM IMG format files
  56.                     (and XIMG, too!) to a variety of file types: Amiga
  57.                     5-plane .IFF, TrueColor .XGA, Targa24 .TGA, XIMG .IMG,
  58.                     PrismPaint .PNT, and Aldus TIFF (Rev. 6.0 of 6/2/92).

  64.   XGA2XIMG.PRG:
  65.   
  66.   The program runs in a load-save cycle.  Clicking on "Cancel" at a load
  67.   file select exits the program.  (Clicking on "Cancel" at a save file
  68.   select merely advances you to a new load file select).
  69.   
  70.   NOTE: XGA file "format" is informal (non-documented). It consists of
  71.   nothing more than a TrueColor screensave. XGA2XIMG loads six sizes of
  72.   XGA. (There are eight TrueColor screen sizes, four with square pixels:
  73.   320x200, 384x240, 640x400, and 768x480; two with horizontal brickbat 
  74.   pixels: 320x400 and 384x480; two with vertical brickbat pixels: 640x200
  75.   and 768x240. The last type, with vertical pixels, is not supported 
  76.   as VGA monitors cannot display 80-column TrueColor raster.)

  78.   The program loads the same six sizes of XGA files as the VIEW_XGA.PRG.
  79.   The program recognizes the XGA screen size by file length. First, the 
  80.   number of colors is counted. Should the number of colors be less than
  81.   240, the 256-color image is constructed without altering the first
  82.   sixteen ("desktop") colors of the palette. 
  83.   
  84.   Should the number of colors exceed 256, the program attempts to create
  85.   a 256-color image by reducing the 15-bit TrueColor palette to a 12-bit
  86.   palette (4096 possible colors).  The conversion proceeds until the
  87.   first 256 assigned colors are used up. The program pauses displaying
  88.   the incomplete image, awaiting a keypress. The partial image may be
  89.   saved if desired, however...

  91.   If the 12-bit palette is inadequate, you can re-load the XGA file and
  92.   attempt the conversion using a 9-bit palette (512 possible colors).
  93.   No further reduction in palette is allowed as the results would hardly
  94.   be worthwhile (64 colors)!
